AUXA
AUXA is a browser-based platform that aims to build a large and scalable audio samples repository, where sound and music creatives are able to collaborate, monetise and distribute their work.
By leveraging blockchain and smart contract technology, AUXA allows artists to create diverse business models and provide transparency over ownership tracking.
During the Resident Entrepreneur project, the AUXA team furthered research and developed audio data visualisation tools and an advanced search engine by utilising machine learning and data analysis algorithms, helping the search and discovery of audio content as well as contributing to a better user experience.
CIVIC DIGITS
Civic Digits blend digital technology, gaming and live performance to create innovative and interactive experiences, to question what it means to be a digital citizen in the 21st century.
Through their Resident Entrepreneur project developed their Data Driven Actor, building an on-stage robot that can perform with human actors in response to live data input, which can be created by audiences using Civic Digits’ software on their own mobile phones.
The aimed to create software to operate the Data Driven Actor that can be used in Civic Digits’ up-coming shows including ‘Bad Actor’, that is also an easily configurable stand-alone product for other stage shows that can work with different props if needed.
DATAGESTIVE
Datagestive is a research and data visualisation consultancy on a mission to inspire and facilitate civic investigations, shifting social narratives toward greater social justice and inclusion.
Datagestive’s Resident Entrepreneur project considered how exploratory data analysis (EDA) – the practice of digging in data for insights – can be made accessible to audiences without specialist skills. The project outlined best-practice steps for analysis and developing clearer visual interfaces that allow more intuitive exploration of data sets.
KONPANION
Konpanion integrate elegant design with artificial intelligence, pioneering a unique direction for domestic robotics and creating an entirely new species of alternative pets. Maah is the only robot in the market using a cover entirely made of a fabric, bringing smart technology to life in the form of an artificial pet.
Konpanion’s Resident Entrepreneur project focussed on integrating and improving existing, connected ecosystems by providing sensors, mobility and intelligence, through a digital Maah twin.
Their project developed the general experience of the Maah and provide enhanced interactions with users including meaningful emotions through body language and sound, for beautifully replicated human empathy.
PLAYABLE TECHNOLOGY
Playable Technology specialises in developing creative technology. Founded by the team that invented and brought Skoog and Skwitch to market, the team has been developing, marketing and supporting creative technology for over ten years. The Playable team is well established, creating and launching products with partners including Apple and securing partnerships with inspiring brands such as Sesame Street.
During their Resident Entrepreneur project, Playable Technology developed Beat Blocks, an app that re-purposes the ubiquitous construction block (e.g. Lego), to make music in real-time leveraging the computing power of AI on smartphones and tablets. The instruments, sounds and loops used in the game are curated from a range of genres, giving children freedom to play, with no training or lessons required.
RAY INTERACTIVE
Ray Interactive is a creative design studio based in Leith, specialising in hybrid (digital and physical) interactive projects. As well as bringing their own ideas to fruition, they support artists, creative agencies and cultural organisations to realise their ambitious concepts.
Through their Resident Entrepreneur project they aimed to develop a hardware/software solution which connects spectators’ mobile devices with on-site audio-visual kit at live events including (but not limited to) light trails, exhibitions, concerts and festivals. This new system will be browser based, leveraging modern devices’ extraordinary array of sensors and functionality.
SENSECITY
SENSEcity is an Experience Design Studio based in Glasgow, specialising in the development of Augmented Reality (AR) experiences for the cultural heritage and tourism sectors.
Through their Resident Entrepreneur project, they continued to develop Historiscope, a viewing scope with integrated AR software that let visitors experience historical sites as they were in their prime. Historiscope was initially developed in response to a Creative Informatics Challenge Project set by Historic Environment Scotland.
THEODORE KOTERWAS
Theodore Koterwas is an artist and musician working with data, perception, and physical phenomena in order to examine aspects of daily experience that often go unnoticed but profoundly impact how people understand themselves, others and the environment.
Through his Resident Entrepreneur project, Theodore developed Somewhere In the Universe it Rains Diamonds (Aether).
This interactive installation uses computer algorithms and high-speed cameras to capture and read cosmic rays that pass through people invisibly, producing musical tones that will be amplified so that they are loud enough for audiences to feel the sounds in their bones.
THE GREY HILL
The Grey Hill is a multimedia theatre company that has created eight audio books and runs two podcast channels. The Grey Hill is now transitioning into an internet media service with a production arm, focussed on supporting theatre venues and creatives.
