Michael was one of our Round 1 Connected Innovators and used his time on the programme to develop his bespoke software, Witness Engines which transforms climate data into musically meaningful sound.
In the lead up to COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, Michael created a new piece of work commissioned by Ocean ARTic, a partnership between Creative Informatics, Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland and People Ocean Planet aiming to raise public awareness about the impact climate change is having in the Arctic and closer to home.
In January 2024, Michael joined the crew of HMS Protector in the Antarctic as Musician in Residence, allowing him to gather a range of field recordings to begin the process of creating new works that will complement the pieces created during earlier residencies with the European Marine Board and the Ocean Arctic Partnership.
Future projects include a comprehensive release of the polar related works from 2020-2024 and a number of live performances, both solo and with the Black Glass Ensemble.
