Chara AI is a Scotland based Artificial Intelligence company founded in 2020. Chara’s focus is on cultivating spaces where interactions are fostered around shared interests or experiences, by interpreting stories and ideas to help creative businesses meet the demands of video streaming platforms.
Chara AI uses machine learning techniques to answer a difficult question, “how do we evaluate a creative work without bias?”. Through the Resident Entrepreneur programme, the Chara Screen Score project attempted to answer this, focussed on the sector’s specific needs of video platforms and the thousands of writers that supply stories for film and TV production. Their approach was to combine human expertise with an Artificial Intelligence system with the aim of bringing diverse new talent to the screen.
Chara AI attracted almost £100K in follow-on funding, including seed money from Scottish Edge and business support from Scottish Enterprise in 2021. In 2023, the company received funding from CI’s Participant and Alumni Creative Tech Fund which they used to update equipment allowing more streamlined work to take place on a “Diversity Checklist” model to help them measure compliance when evaluating creative projects.
