Friday Forum – Apply to take part now!

We are delighted to be partnering with Visual Arts Scotland for Friday Forum, a new series of regular online events, featuring speakers from across the creative industries!

Online sharing events for the creative industries

Friday Forum is an online sharing event for creatives, where they can showcase snippets of their work, give virtual tours around their current studio spaces, talk about a particular topic or theme, or provide insights into their creative practice or career.

Friday Forums will feature four contributors who will give short, 10-15 minute presentations or talks followed by a Q&A session. Contributors will be selected via a rolling application process led by Visual Arts Scotland with support from the Creative Informatics team, and will receive £125 each to prepare and give their presentation. Friday Forums will last between 1.5 and 2 hours and will take place on Zoom.

Our pilot edition took place on Friday the 24th of April and featured a talk for ceramic artist Kevin Andrew Morris, a live life drawing demonstration from Topaz Pauls of Reconfigure Life Drawing, a studio tour from artist and Creative Informatics Research Fellow Inge Panneels, and a studio tour and live performance from musician Ben Seal.

Contributor Application Guidance Notes

Selection Criteria
We welcome proposals from individuals working in any area of the creative industries. We will aim to include contributors within each event who have a connection with data or a technical process, project or practice in line with the objectives of the Creative Informatics programme.

Where possible, applications from individuals facing financial hardship and lack or loss of work due to Covid-19 will be prioritised.

Contributions can vary in form and topic and could include:

Sharing of studio spaces/current studio space
Online demonstrations
Lecture style talk on a particular topic/theme
Explaining emerging ideas/experiments/works in progress
Sharing of creative practice/career/experiences
Discussion of barriers and needs

Fee and requirements
Each contributor will be paid £125 to prepare and give their talk and must be available to engage in the whole event by being present for Q and A ‘s from the audience or conversation with other contributors. Invoices will be processed by Visual Arts Scotland after the event.

Each event will last between 1.5 hours and 2 hours. Individual contributions can range between 10 and 15 minutes. Events will most likely take place on Friday’s between 3pm and 5pm.

Deadline for applications
There will be no set deadline for applications. This will be a rolling programme and applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all available contributor slots have been filled. We will update our respective websites and social media channels when contributor slots become limited.

How long will the Friday Forum series last?
Friday Forums will run for a minimum of 8 weeks through May and June, providing paid opportunities for the creative community to help combat disruption occurring as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
