CI Innovation Showcase – Video Highlights!

Our first CI Innovation Showcase took place on Wednesday the 17th of June, shining a spotlight on some of the creative individuals and businesses we have supported to date, exploring the impact our programme is having on Edinburgh and South East Scotland’s ecosystem, and celebrating the learning and successes of the Creative Informatics community.

If you didn’t make it along on the day, here are some of the highlights for your viewing pleasure!

Keynote and Q&A with Bernadine Bröcker Wieder

Bernadine Bröcker Wieder is CEO and founder of global online art marketplace Vastari Group Ltd. Bernadine walked us through a specially curated virtual exhibition, discussing how art continues interact with technology in her talk ‘Art + Technology in Web 3.0’, before taking part in a live Q&A chaired by Briana Pegado, Executive Director of Creative Edinburgh.

Ecosystem Panel

Steven Drost, CSO of CodeBase hosted a discussion with creative producer Janine Matheson, and Creative Informatics Resident Entrepreneur and founder of PicoJar, Siwei Kang. The panel considered the requirements of a successful ecosystem, exploring the components that have enabled Edinburgh to flourish as a hub for tech, creativity and innovation, and discussed how Covid-19 has impacted the global startup landscape.

CI Programme Showcase

Our CI Programme Showcase featured short talks from Resident Entrepreneurs, Challenge Project respondents, and Creative Bridge participants, who shared their experiences of taking part in the Creative Informatics programme, providing insights into how their creative businesses and projects have benefited from CI funding and development opportunities.

In conversation Matt Russo

Matt Russo, co-founder of SYSTEM Sounds and My Starry Night, joined Creative Informatics programme manager Nicola Osborne to talk about combining his passion for music and astrophysics, becoming an entrepreneur, and working with his long-term friend and collaborator to develop a successful creative business.

Algorave Demo with Alex McLean

Last, but by no means least, software artist, live coding musician and researcher Alex McLean closed out the day with an introduction to live coding, using his open source live coding software TidalCycles, before treating viewers to a dance-along-at-home Algorave!
