Edinburgh Science specialises in providing immersive, innovative and creative science and technology engagement experiences to achieve a brighter and more sustainable future.
They run Edinburgh’s annual Science Festival: the world’s first science festival and still one of Europe’s largest, which features a range of creative events including theatre, music and visual arts.
As an Edinburgh festival, a lot of participants do not realise that Edinburgh Science is a charity that provides free and subsidised events to benefit adults and children.
Their Creative Informatics Challenge Project focussed on creating a fun, interactive experience for audiences that encouraged them to make a small donation when attending events.
In 2020 design consultancy Make Things Happen were selected to respond to Edinburgh Science’s Challenge Project. In response to the brief they developed DNAtion, a mini online game that tests users science knowledge and interests and reveals their Edinburgh Science personality. After playing the game, users are encouraged to make a donation to support Edinburgh Science’s charitable work.
DNAtion launched at the start of the 2021 Edinburgh Science Festival.
