Could you be our Marchmont House Resident Entrepreneur?

We are delighted to be partnering with Marchmont House, a home for makers and creators situated in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders, to offer a residential placement as part of our Round 5 Resident Entrepreneurs call, which opens today!

Marchmont House Courtyard

This fantastic opportunity will include an initial two week stay at Marchmont House in September 2021 and use of the Tower Studio workspace, with the possibility of an additional two week stay in 2021/22, subject to agreement between the successful Resident Entrepreneur and the Marchmont House team.

Marchmont House sits on the Marchmont Estate, to the east of Greenlaw Village, approximately 40 miles from Edinburgh. First built in 1750, the house has recently been redeveloped as a multipurpose space, with an emphasis on creativity and traditional crafts supported by the Marchmont Makers Foundation.

Marchmont House Creative Space

A variety of studios and workspaces have been set up within the house, breathing new life into this incredible historic building and nurturing a home for makers and creators, inspiring creativity in the arts, crafts, purpose driven business and social enterprise.

As well as accommodation and studio space, the residency will include regular check-ins and mentoring with a member of the Marchmont House team which includes Hugo Burge, former CEO of Momondo Group, now Co-Founder of Marchmont Ventures and the Marchmont Makers Foundation, Alan Martin – Managing Director of Marchmont Ventures, Marchmont Curator Francis Raeymaekers, and General Manager Anthony Hughes-Onslow.

Applicants for this opportunity must meet the standard Resident Entrepreneur selection criteria, and must additionally meet the criteria that:

  • You agree to commit to being resident at Marchmont House for 2 weeks (anticipated to take place in September 2021), with the possibility of an additional two week stay in 2021/22, subject to agreement between the successful Resident Entrepreneur and the Marchmont House team.
  • Your RE project must have specific impact in the Scottish Borders – whether by being based in or working with businesses or communities in the Borders. Marchmont House and Creative Informatics will be happy to facilitate introductions as appropriate.
  • Whilst all projects will be considered, we are particularly interested in Resident Entrepreneur projects concerned with and/or benefitting the rural economy; businesses/projects focused on environmental and/or business sustainability (especially in rural contexts).
  • Please note: Given Marchmont House’s rural location, it is not readily accessible by public transport, so we would recommend applicants consider appropriate transport options before applying, and/or factoring associated transport costs in their project plans.

If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please indicate your interest in the Marchmont House Residency when completing your Resident Entrepreneur application form.

Applications for Resident Entrepreneurs are open now and close on Wednesday 19th May at 5pm.
